Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)
Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)
A hands-on program for parents of young children with big behaviors.
If mealtimes, bedtime, or just about any transition has turned into a daily battle, you're not doing anything wrong — and you're not alone. PCIT is one of the most effective programs available for children ages 2 to 7 who are struggling with tantrums, defiance, aggression, or trouble listening.
How it works
PCIT is different from traditional talk therapy. You're in the room the whole time, and your therapist coaches you live while you play and interact with your child. You leave every session with real skills you can use that same day, not just something to think about.
The program has two phases:
Building connection. You'll learn specific ways to strengthen your relationship with your child and increase the behaviors you want to see more of.
Building structure. You'll learn clear, consistent ways to set limits and follow through, so your child knows exactly what to expect.
What to expect
Sessions run about an hour, once a week, and most families complete the program in a few months. Progress is tracked along the way, so you'll always know how things are going and when you're ready to graduate.
Is PCIT right for your family?
PCIT tends to help most when a child is between 2 and 7 and struggling with:
Frequent tantrums or meltdowns
Not listening or following directions
Aggression toward siblings or peers
Defiance or power struggles
If that sounds familiar, this program was built for exactly this stage of parenting.
